What is a developmental editor, and why do you need one?

A developmental editor is a beta reader, brainstormer, lore checker, consistency coach, and writing teacher all in one, and can shave years off of getting your novel published. They can also protect your passion for writing by spotting weaknesses in your work before you begin submissions.

While a developmental editor will work on all aspects of your writing, they often have specialities that can further augment any weaknesses in your craft.
